In the 2016 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, EV Velu of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) gained the Tiruvannamalai seat. He gained 1,16,484 votes, as in opposition to 66,136 votes gained by his essential rival Okay Rajan of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
In the 2011 election, EV Velu of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) had gained the Tiruvannamalai seat by defeating R Rajendran of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
