In the 2016 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, P Dhanapal of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) received the Avanashi seat. He received 93,366 votes, as towards 62,692 votes received by his foremost rival E Anandhan of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
In the 2011 election, MA Karuppasamy of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) had received the Avanashi seat by a margin of 61,411 votes.
Election date and timing
