Meanwhile, in another alarming spike, India recorded 43,846 new Covid infections in 24 hours – making it the highest single-day rise recorded so far this year. This has also taken the nationwide Covid-19 tally to 1,15,99,130.
The country has been registering an increase in Coronavirus cases for 11 days in a row. The total active caseload has increased to 3,09,087.
The death toll has also increased to 1,59,755 with 197 daily new fatalities, the highest in 97 days. Besides this, the number of people who have recovered from the disease has surged to 1,11,30,288.
